This was thought of many times by him before bringing this up in the session so letting the MERAKI cards add fun and play their magical role was one of the ways of steering the conversation forward.
Yet again, MERAKI did surprise us as he picked up the cards (refer the image below) and started to reflect.
Looking at the three cards slowly he started to talk about the fact that he was very clear that he wants to convert his hobby into a profession and his low motivation levels at work was making it difficult to thrive within and outside work. Whenever he would talk to his friends who are also in similar jobs and environment, have similar mindset about work, he and they end up having a conversation that didn’t help much to increase his motivation levels either to pursue his hobby further or at his job. The black and white attire of a couple of executives in 2 of the 3 cards he picked made him reflect and talk in detail about it. He was operating from a black and white/ fixed mindset.
What if he could keep wearing a formal shirt and a tie yet be a little crazy as the guy in the 2nd card?
The moment he started to talk about the craziness aspect, ideas about what needs to change in his way of being at work started to flow. The conversation then moved into one stemming from a growth mindset. The focus shifted to creative ways that could help him be more agile by being formal or crazy as per the demands of the context.
This time again it was appreciable to reach this realization and a list of actions with laser sharp focus and speed with help of MERAKI.
